The <strong>umbilical stump<\/strong> is whitish at first, gradually dries out, darkens and finally falls off within 7\u201310 days.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Until the cord falls off, the stump needs regular care and disinfection to prevent skin and systemic infections. Cleaning with pure alcohol and Betadine antiseptic solution is recommended. This is repeated until the cord falls off and for 2\u20133 days afterwards, until the area has fully healed. Until it detaches, the umbilical stump should be kept dry and not covered by the nappy.
